Sermon by Venerable Michael Rusk | July 5th 2026
Where do we turn when life feels heavy?
On the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrated the Holy Baptism of Sophie Katharina Anne and reflected on one of Jesus' most comforting invitations:
"Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."
In this sermon, Rector Michael Rusk explores how Christ transforms the burdens we carry. Using the image of a suitcase with wheels and the illustration of a perfectly fitted yoke, we are reminded that while life's challenges do not disappear, Jesus walks alongside us, giving us the strength to carry them with hope.
The sermon also celebrates the joy and responsibility of baptism. As Sophie is welcomed into the family of God, the congregation renews its own baptismal promises and reflects on what it means to nurture faith across generations and communities. Christian formation is not a solitary journey—it is something we share together as the Body of Christ.
Whether through prayer, Scripture, worship, or supporting one another, we are invited to grow into the life Christ calls us to live, trusting that his grace is our sure foundation through both joyful and difficult seasons.
