Faith, Generosity & Compassion Without Borders

Updated: Jun 15

Guest Sermon by Brian Bachand | June 7th 2026

What does it mean to truly follow Jesus?

On the Second Sunday after Pentecost, guest preacher Brian Bachand reflects on Jesus' invitation to Matthew: "Follow me." Through stories from his own journey—from Catholic priest to nonprofit fundraiser—Brian explores how faith often calls us beyond certainty, comfort, and our carefully laid plans into a deeper trust in God's purpose.

Drawing on the Gospel account of Matthew's calling and the healing miracles of Jesus, this sermon reminds us that discipleship begins not with perfection, but with openness. Jesus calls us as we are—seeing both our gifts and our brokenness—and invites us into a life transformed by love, faith, and service.

Brian also shares the vision behind Emmanuel's upcoming fundraising campaign, "Human Dignity, No Exceptions: Compassion Without Borders," supporting the Refugee Welcome Center and Emmanuel's international ministries. Fundraising, he suggests, is not ultimately about money, but about relationships, transformation, and participating in God's work of hope and healing in the world.
