God's Time Is Always the Best Time

What happens when God's timing doesn't match our own?
On the Third Sunday after Pentecost, Deacon Richard Cole reflects on the tension between human expectations and divine timing. Drawing from Abraham and Sarah's encounter with the mysterious visitors at Mamre, the mission of the disciples, and Paul's words on suffering and hope, this sermon explores how God often works in ways that challenge our assumptions about being in the "right place at the right time."
Through stories from Scripture and everyday life, we are reminded that faith requires vulnerability, trust, and perseverance. Like Sarah laughing at the promise of a child, Martha and Mary questioning Jesus' delay, or the disciples being sent out into uncertainty, we often struggle to understand God's purposes when circumstances seem difficult or delayed.
Yet the Christian message is one of hope. God's grace meets us not when we are strong, but when we are weak. Even when we feel lost, disappointed, or out of place, God remains beside us, patiently guiding us back toward the life he desires for us.
As Christians, we are invited not merely to endure life's challenges, but to trust that God is at work within them, transforming suffering into character, character into hope, and hope into deeper faith.
