On Trinity Sunday, Rector Michael Rusk reflects on one of Christianity's central beliefs: the Holy Trinity. Why does the Church describe God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? How did this understanding develop, and why does it matter for our faith today?
Using the image of a game that requires rules and boundaries, this sermon explores how the doctrine of the Trinity provides the framework within which Christians live, worship, and understand God. The sermon traces the Church's early struggles to articulate its faith, reflects on Christian-Muslim dialogue, and invites us to discover a God who is personal, dynamic, creative, and overflowing with love.
Drawing on the story of Creation in Genesis and the Great Commission in Matthew's Gospel, we are reminded that faith is not merely a set of ideas but an invitation to participate in the life of God. As we worship the Holy Trinity, we are also encouraged to embrace the gift of Sabbath rest and find renewal in the beauty, creativity, and holiness of God.
