Rector Michael Rusk | May 17th 2026
On the Seventh Sunday of Easter, the Sunday after Ascension Day, Emmanuel Episcopal Church Geneva gathered for Holy Baptism, Eucharist, and Agape as we celebrated a baptism.
In this sermon, the Rector Michael Rusk reflects on the Ascension of Christ as a moment of completion, thanksgiving, and waiting. Just as the disciples returned to Jerusalem devoted to prayer after Jesus’ ascension, we too are invited into a season of rest, reflection, Scripture, and expectation before Pentecost.
The sermon also explores the spiritual formation of children, the promises made in baptism, and the Church’s calling to nurture kindness, justice, faith, and love in the next generation. From Geneva to Gaza and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we are reminded that the life of faith calls us into a global community of prayer and action.
Readings: Acts 1:6–14 | Psalm 68:1–10, 33–36 | 1 Peter 4:12–14; 5:6–11 | John 17:1–11
